Privacy Policy
SteerJobs is a project-management app for construction crews. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app collects, why each piece is collected, how it's protected, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the app's features need, your data stays within your own company, and we never sell it or share it with advertisers.
What we collect, and why
Every piece of data we collect is tied to a feature you use:

| Photos | Crew members upload photos of job phases to verify and document work progress. We only receive the photos you choose to upload. Each phase photo is stored with the facts of its capture: the time, the coordinates and address of the spot it was taken from — along with the accuracy of that reading, and altitude and heading where the device reports them — and the permit number the job was working under at the time. On iPhone these facts are also drawn onto the image itself, so the photo still carries them if it is exported or printed. |

How location data is used
Location is tied to specific work events — SteerJobs does not continuously track you in the background.
The app uses your device's GPS in three specific situations: to record where you are when you check in or out of a jobsite; to detect when you leave a jobsite's geofenced area while you're checked in; and to record where a phase photo was taken, at the moment you take it. Each is a single reading at a single moment, taken because you did something — clocked in, clocked out, or pressed the shutter. The app does not follow your movements between those events, and when you are not checked in to a site it is not reading your location at all. You can control the app's location access at any time in your device's Settings.
The point of the photo reading is that a phase photo is a record of work: it says what was built, when, where, and under which permit. That record is for your company's own files and for anyone who later has to verify the work — a county inspector, for instance. It is documentation of a job, not a log of a person's day.
How your data is stored and protected
- Encryption in transit. All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS).
- Company isolation. Data is stored in a database with row-level security, meaning each company's data is isolated at the database level. Users can only access data belonging to their own company.
- Access control. Within your company, access to data follows your role and assignments in the app.
Who your data is shared with
- Your own company. Data you create in SteerJobs (check-ins, photos, hours, profile info) is visible to the appropriate people within your company — for example, your project managers and admins. It is never visible to other companies using SteerJobs.
- Infrastructure provider. We use Supabase to host our database, file storage, and authentication. Supabase processes data on our behalf as an infrastructure provider and does not use it for its own purposes.
- No one else. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The app contains no third-party ad tracking.
We may disclose data if required by law, or as part of a business transfer (such as a merger), in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information — most account and profile details can be edited directly in the app.
- Delete your account and personal data.
To request account or data deletion, email us at hello@steerjobs.com from the email address on your account. We'll confirm and complete the deletion. Note that some records created for your company (such as hours logged against a job) may be retained by your company as business records, with personal identifiers removed where possible.
Children
SteerJobs is a workplace tool and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and notify users in the app.
